May 24 - 28, 2021 is Flood Awareness Week, an annual event promoted by the Texas Floodplain Management Association.
Severe weather conditions have been active this spring in Central Texas. Residents are encouraged to be emergency prepared and weather aware by knowing what to do and when in a potential flooding situation. Here are three ways to help keep safe:
- Stay on top of severe weather by signing up for emergency alerts at http://WarnCentralTexas.org.
- Because most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles, never drive around barricades or across flooded roads – Turn Around. Don't Drown!
- Plan ahead to get weather ready. Learn flood safety tips at http://weather.gov/safety/flood.
Citizens should also monitor www.haysinformed.com for real-time road closures, in addition to local radio and television outlets for up-to-date information if you must travel during severe weather.
