Bo Kidd, a former captain with the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, was selected as Buda's first Chief of Police, starting in April 2010. The City of Buda Police Department was founded on Oct. 20, 2010 to provide an increased level of crime prevention and public service to the citizens of Buda. With nearly 30 years in law enforcement, Kidd previously held positions as patrol deputy, field training officer, detective/narcotics investigator, and patrol sergeant. He served 10 years on the Hays County SWAT Team and retired from SWAT in 2008 as the commander that unit. He is a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) instructor and has earned Master Peace Officer certification. Kidd has instructed numerous “tactical / use-of-force” classes to thousands of law enforcement officers around the country in numerous states. He also has been an adjunct instructor for the nationally acclaimed Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training program (ALERRT) since 2003. Kidd has been recognized by the Buda Area Chamber of Commerce as Citizen of the Year 2013, with the F.B.I. / L.E.E.D.A. Leadership Trilogy Award 2016, and as City of Buda’s Employee of the Year 2017.
